“To Sleaze or not to sleaze”

What is it about sex and sleaze that here in America we just can’t get enough of? As millions of people across the country get together to sit and watch the super bowl, many of them are less interested in the game itself, and more interested in the million dollar commercials. I admit, some of these commercials are funny and not completely tasteless, but the majority of them stick to the idea that “sleaze sells. I’d like to personally thank the companies and organizations out there that hold onto their morals like many rap artists hold “the front of their pants” during any given music video. Without you, there’s no telling just how distasteful American television might become.

Perhaps this is part of the problem many people have with big corporations. They spend so much money on ad campaigns such as the super bowl that they feel a supersized amount of pressure to run a commercial that’s “made to stick.” Therefore, instead of risking it with something original, tasteful and funny, they go with what they know will sell – sex and sleaze.

I’m glad that Columbia hasn’t sleazed themselves out yet like a drunk freshmen on the rebound. However, if their popularity grows, and they keep up the commercials like the one with the penguins, it’s only a matter of time.
